An essential-oil diffuser is easy to forget about until the mist weakens or every blend starts smelling vaguely the same. A quick cleaning keeps residue from building up and helps each scent smell the way it should.
First, unplug the diffuser and empty any remaining water. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before using a cleaning product; not every unit is built the same way.
For routine care, wipe the inside of the reservoir with a soft, damp cloth. Use a cotton swab to gently clean around the ultrasonic plate without pressing hard. Dry the unit before refilling it.
For deeper cleaning, follow the brand’s directions. Many manufacturers allow a small amount of white vinegar diluted in water, but some do not. Never submerge the base, pour water into air vents, or scrape the plate with a sharp tool.
A simple habit that helps
Empty the reservoir after each use instead of allowing scented water to sit overnight. Wipe it every few uses and deep-clean it according to the manual. This is especially helpful when switching from a strong oil like lemongrass to a softer oil like lavender.
A clean diffuser produces a cleaner scent experience—and it keeps your five-minute calm ritual from turning into a replacement-appliance situation.
